Maharashtra – known as financial capital of Republic of India. Its area is 307,713 sq.kms. This state shares borders with Arabian Sea to the west, Karnataka and Goa to the south, Telangana to the southeast and Chhattisgarh to the east, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh to the north, and the Indian union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu to the northwest. Maharashtra state is 2nd most populous state in India. Maharashtrian culture has been derived from the ancient Hindu Vedic culture influenced deeply by the Maratha Empire – Shivaji.The important hill stations are Mahabaleshwar, Matheran and Chikhaldara. Maharashtra state has historical and religious places such as Sikh Gurudwara of Hazur Sahib at Nanded, Khandoba temple at Jejuri – Pune and Sai Baba Temple at Shirdi.
The state has many national parks and Tiger reserve such as Melghat Tiger Reserve in Amravati, Tadoba, Andhari Tiger Reserve in Chandrapur, UmredKarhandla Wildlife Sanctuary in Nagpur, The Nagzira wild life sanctuary and Navegaon National Park (bird sanctuary) in Gondia.
